FERAL FELINE RELOCATION
A feral cat is one that has been born
in the wild or abandoned at a very early age. This cat has never known
human touch or love.
One female cat AND her
offspring (and theirs and theirs, etc, etc) can produce approximately
420,000 cats in just 7 years. Though many of these cats can be
domesticated, there are those that never feel comfortable in a home
environment. These lovers of nature's outdoors can still serve a very
useful purpose on surrounding farms and ranches for rodent control.
We catch, neuter/spay and
return to feral life or shelter as many as we can get. If you have a
farm, barn or property that can support one or more cats, please contact
us and provide a home for one or more of these animals.
TNR (Trap Neuter/Spay Return) Feeding Program
The quality of life of a
feral cat can be determined by many things. Overpopulation creates
starvation, disease, and cuts down the amount of shelter available to
feral cats during the winter.
Three years ago we became
a part of a national program called TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) We trap
stray cats, get them medical attention if needed, spay or neuter them,
properly deworm then return them to the area where they were found. We
have members of our community who have gotten involved even going so far
as to provide food and water stations and straw bales set up as shelter.
As a way of encouraging our community
to take action against feral overpopulation and increase the quality of
life
for ferals in general, we are offering assistance in
providing food for the ferals to individuals who take it upon themselves
to take them in and get them altered as well as any other medical care
that may be needed for the animal's well-being.
Humane
traps are available for loan from the Sanctuary to catch feral cats for
this purpose. Please contact the Sanctuary for more information.
The
Dumpster Kittens: Squeekers - Awhile back Michael
found a box of kittens inside the Careywood dumpster, three identical
look alikes! After getting them cleaned up, defeat-ed, dewormed and on
antibiotics, good food and fresh water, they began to grow healthy. The
one he'd named Squeekers wasn't getting better. At the vet, it was
discovered Squeekers had dental floss in his intestines. With time and
veterinary guidance, the floss was removed and Squeekers has since
recovered. His brothers have all found loving homes but Squeekers is
still here at the Sanctuary and is available for adoption.
Volunteers Welcome!
Whether a
volunteer drops by every once in awhile, or commits to helping a set
number of hours a month, our volunteers are greatly appreciated!
WE NEED
YOUR HELP AT LIFE-TIME FRIENDS ANIMAL SANCTUARY!!!
Volunteering at a shelter or sanctuary can be an emotionally draining
experience. However, LTFAS is very different from a normal shelter
atmosphere. The animals are not caged and you don't have to worry that
any of them will lose their life because they have been there too long.
We think you will be emotionally uplifted.
